The Story Behind Betty & Joanne Inspired by a little dog with a very big personality

Betty & Joanne began with a love of animals, creativity and the incredible bond we share with our pets.
Betty was my Chihuahua, my companion for 13 wonderful years, and the inspiration behind everything that carries her name today. She wasn't just my dog — she was part of my everyday life, both personally and professionally.
Before Betty & Joanne was created, Betty was already known by many people across the UK. During my years working with large corporate clients, Betty would often join me at customer meetings and I became affectionately known as “the rep with the dog”. She had a remarkable ability to connect with people, bringing warmth and personality wherever she went.
She truly seemed more human than dog at times. Her character, confidence and loving nature inspired many friends and colleagues to welcome dogs of their own into their lives.
How Betty & Joanne began
The idea for Betty & Joanne started when my brother asked me to create a bespoke piece of artwork. That first commission reminded me how meaningful it is to capture the character and spirit of the animals we love.
From there, Betty & Joanne was born — a place where my passion for drawing and my love of animals could come together.
Every pet portrait and animal illustration I create is inspired by the unique personalities that make our animals so special. Whether it is a beloved family pet, a treasured memory, or an animal that simply brings joy, my aim is to create artwork that feels personal and meaningful.
Betty’s legacy
Betty is at the heart of the Betty & Joanne name and remains the inspiration behind the brand.
Although Betty sadly passed away in June 2026, the love, happiness and connection she brought into my life continue through every piece of artwork I create. Her pawprint is part of this business — not only in the name and logo, but in the purpose behind everything I do.
The photograph of Betty and me from my 40th birthday is a reminder of the special bond we shared, while the image of her sitting proudly in the basket of my bike captures the adventurous little character she was.
Betty showed me just how deeply animals become part of our lives. Through Betty & Joanne, I hope to celebrate those connections and create artwork that helps others treasure the animals who mean so much to them.
